November 2011 5th AGM held for PEECE Consulting - see Chairman John Wearne's Report

October 2011 - PEECE Director Peter Syson has been selected to present a paper titled 'Linear Infrastructure and Biodiversity' to the 1st World Congress of Biodiversity 2012 in Xian in China.

The paper explores the habitat and biodiversity issues associated with a variety of linear infrastructure including roads, pipelines and electricity corridors.  Peter's experience in roads and pipeline planning and construction permits a unique perspective and is particularly relevant to today's expansive resource and public infrastructure investment.

August 2011 - PEECE Director Phil Hawley presented a paper titled 'Sustainability in Highway Engineering: an Australian Perspective' to the International Public Works Conference at Canberra ACT.  The paper was adapted from similar material that Phil presented to the JPCD in Changchun, China in September 2010.

Phil also presented a paper titled 'Process Benchmarking in Dubbo City Council, Australia', to the 2009 International Public Works Conference in Melbourne Vic.  The paper was co-authored with fellow PEECE Director Steve O’Rourke and Ian Bailey, Manager Works Services at Dubbo City Council.  The paper was subsequently submitted to and published by the prestigious 'Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers'.  It was published in December 2010 in Volume 163, Issue ME4.  Further details about this paper can be found here.

Extract from Tenterfield Star, April 2009 - Tenterfield Shire Council engaged PEECE to consider the feasibility of a heavy vehicle bypass.  Six options, three on each of the western and eastern sides of town, were considered in the study and these were presented in two meetings for business owners and the public at the end of April 2009.

After Mr. Rufford, of PEECE, concluded the presentation of the options, he opened the floor to questions.  Concerns ranged from the potential economic impact of the bypass on businesses in the main street, the proximity to St Joseph’s Primary School, impact on residents in the streets of the preferred options.  However, residents of Tenterfield was also considered enough of a tourist destination in itself to counter the potential loss of custom through Rouse Street.  Further, it was acknowledged that only heavy traffic would be encouraged to use the bypass, thereby, allowing the town centre to thrive in its absence.                  Right:  Peter Rufford of PEECE and Toby Smith, Tenterfield Mayor

PEECE presents at the IPWEA NSW Division Annual Conference 2005

In May 2005, Steve O'Rourke, Phil Hawley and Peter Rufford presented a paper on Regional Transport Plans at the the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (NSW Division).

The paper highlighted the role that Regional Transport Plans can play in assisting Councils identify their regional infrastructure priorities and identifying the cost sharing arrangements needed to fund them.  The paper drew on the experience gained in the preparation of a number of RTPs for regional groupings of Councils across Australia.  The planning process provided a framework for Councils to work together with their local industries to make the strongest case for funding from State and Commonwealth Governments.  However there are benefits other than making a case for additional funding.  The process assists Councils deliver regional outcomes by establishing the linkages between transport infrastructure and regional economic development.  The co-operation required for the plan is a positive outcome that better equips individual Councils to allocate priorities within their own local areas.
